HI, I'M THERESA!
"don't you think maybe they are the same thing? Love, and attention?"
-from Lady Bird
Yoga is the practice of paying attention: to the alignment and sensations of the body, the rhythm of the breath, & the emotions and thoughts arising in each moment. This increased awareness gives us space- a pause to take a breath instead of simply reacting. To live on purpose.
I aim to cultivate this attention through slow movement and humor. My classes do not subscribe to one particular style. I aim to honor the teachings of this philosophical path and encourage my students to honor the wisdom of their bodies. I believe practice can be both serious & joyful, and should leave you feeling better.
My teaching is influenced by many years of study with Barbara Benagh in Boston, with whom I completed my 500-hour training in 2014, and Richard Freeman in Boulder, including his 300 hour Teachers’ Intensive in 2014. I love anatomy and am a certified KMI Movement and Structural Analyst under Tom Myers.
I founded Bow Street Yoga in 2009 in Union Square, Somerville.
